The Shami plant (Prosopis cineraria or Vachellia cineraria) is a small, thorny, slow-growing evergreen tree native to arid regions of South Asia and the Middle East. It features delicate, feathery, bipinnately compound green leaves and slender, light brown branches with small, sharp prickles. In various cultural and religious traditions—particularly within Hinduism—it is considered sacred and associated with Lord Saturn (Shani) and the goddess Durga.
